Getting ready for Sophomore Outdoor Ed.

No, Austin is not praying. But maybe he should be, for good weather that is, on his 4 night Outdoor Ed. trip. He leaves for the Olympic Peninsula on Sunday for the dreaded but always fun in the end, hike. However, he will be doing more than just hiking, he will be doing a canoe trip as well and will be responsible for carrying his canoe with his pack for part of this trip. I laugh because not only has Lauren and Megan done this very trip, but so have Reed and I. My trip was even harder ( i feel) because it was back in the day where kids had less pampering and tlc. I was on the survivor part of this adventure and ate things we collected on the trip like huckle berries and thistle soup. Seriously, that is what we ate. We also sat up all night on our paper thin blue mattress pads and just listened to the fog horns down below echoing over the water all night long. Too uncomfortable and too hungry to sleep. So funny now though because Austin will be eating four carefully planned out meals one of which includes a curry dish with Ramen noodles. Where was that when I was out there? Does Austin even eat that? Thinking he will when thistles and berries are the only other option. He also will be lounging in his cozy tent and chatting it up with really cute girls while resting on his extra thick inflatable mattress. pad. So pack check is today and I'm sure we covered it all. The food he is supposed to carry for the group I need to to go get because they are something we just don't have here at the house. They are bamboo shoots, salsa and bag salad. Wow! So anyways, that is what Austin is up to right now. Knowing he will have a memorable time for sure. I will be thinking of him while I am in Napa wine tasting on the Harley's!
